Catamaran Styles
People are starting to realize there are more than one style of catamarans then they once thought. This is because people are becoming more educated on this style of boat as they continue to increase in popularity. This increase in education is helping people make better informed choices when purchasing boats. It is also helping them to spot a true catamaran regardless of it’s style or size. Most people think of a catamaran as only the small sail boat style vessel. Majority of the population realize that a sail boat only has one hull while a catamaran has two. Typically this is one of the only few ways to tell the difference in these types of vessel. Both are generally powered by a sail with a small engine to help if the winds die out. These small catamarans are great for day use and are relatively easy to move from one location to the next.
The next style of catamaran is considerably bigger than the smaller version. These boats are often classed with single hull yachts. Larger catamarans are powered by engines, although some do still have sails as well. These vessels have a cabin area that is located below the next and are usually between the two hulls. There are many different sizes of catamarans in this class. Many feature kitchens, restroom facilities, and one or more bedrooms. They are fully functional living quarters that can be used for long periods of time.
Many people have been on the largest form of catamaran at some point in time. Often these people do not even realize the vessel they are on is considered a catamaran. This is because the largest style of the vessels is often referred to simply as a ferry. Most ferries are a multi hull vessel and is therefore considered a catamaran.
